Lorystraße
SOCIAL, GENEROUS, ELEGANT.
Simmering is better than its reputation: On a quiet, green plot of land in the hinterland of Simmeringer Hauptstraße, the private developer Latal Immobilien gmbH realized two subsidized residential buildings.
Contemporary, white-plastered structures with floor-to-ceiling windows provide a solid foundation for family-friendly living, while load-bearing exterior walls bring a high degree of flexibility on the inside.
In the multi-story house facing the street, a spacious stairwell lit by a skylight with wide corridors whose central air space tapers upward ennobles the circulation area into a communicative space for all. Ocher-colored soffits and walls, which become increasingly lighter towards the top, reinforce the effect.
The strongest distinguishing feature of the houses is their special type of loggias and balconies: untreated larch slats, which turn gray with time, transform curtain balcony slabs into a characteristic design element.
P.GOOD designed cost-effective and with high quality. Contemporary, white-plastered structures with floor-to-ceiling windows form the solid basis for family-friendly living, while load-bearing exterior walls provide a high degree of flexibility on the inside. In the point house on the street, a generous staircase with wide corridors, lit by a skylight, whose central air space tapers towards the top, ennobles the development area into a communicative space for all. Ochre soffits and walls that grow lighter toward the top enhance the effect. This large stairwell also ensures that the apartments in the deep structure receive plenty of light. They are oriented to the northeast and southwest throughout. In the second, L-shaped component, the stairwell also sits strategically in the inner corner: artist Dora Mai painted its 20-meter-high side wall with Mary Poppins on a trapeze. Its color scheme is reminiscent of the 1950s and echoes a tradition of social housing. The strongest distinguishing feature of the houses is their special type of loggias and balconies: untreated larch slats, which turn gray with time, transform pre-hung balcony slabs into a characteristic design element. Slightly offset against each other, they dance playfully as striking towers over the white facades, where they form balconies or loggias.
On the roof, the wooden structure in front of the wood-clad staggered stories transforms into a shade-giving pergola. On the flat roof of the courtyard-side building, many raised beds are already waiting to be planted by the first tenants.
